Mother of Pearl Tray

This lovely decorative tray was hand-made by skilled artisans from a rural area of Vietnam, using 100% natural harvested and eco-friendly materials without harming any living organisms.

Mother of Pearl is the inner layer of pearl shells and seashells and it’s brittle by nature. Each shell is unique in color and texture with a shiny and iridescent finish, making it an ideal decorative material, especially as an inlay in rosewood furniture or MDF frame. The technique of inserting pieces of mother of pearl into depressions made on a base object is known as an inlay. First, mother-of-pearl shells are delicately cut into various shapes. The intricate shapes are then placed by hand on an MDF frame in a well-designed pattern. Then, the colored resin is filled around the shaped pieces of mother of pearl to create the background. The mother-of-pearl shells are offset by the striking color of the resin to create an exotic-looking rustic piece of home decor.
